Just Transitions for LA Oil Workers
Flint & Steel was engaged by the County of Los Angeles to conduct workforce research and strategic planning focused on oil extraction workers facing industry displacement amid California’s clean energy transition. The research identified transferable skills, emerging career pathways, and workforce development opportunities to support a just and equitable transition for impacted workers and communities.
Following the success of this initial research phase, Abigail and Flint & Steel were subsequently retained to help lead implementation efforts that laid the groundwork for what would become Los Angeles County’s broader “Just Oil Transitions” initiative — helping shape a workforce-centered approach to economic resilience, retraining, and sustainable career pathways for the future, funded and co-designed by the C40 Cities Initiative.
